The Board of Director's 4th Quarter Fund Raising team is looking for people to help facilitate, what we hope will become an annual event, its the first.

Feed the Hungry 5K and 1 mile walk.
We are in need of people who can help organize this and people to help with the actual event day. Anyone who has experience in creating such an event would be very welcomed as this is a new adventure for us and it has great potential for raising funds for the ministries of First Church. What is a Mother?
Reflections from Rev. Diane and the Children of First Church
During Children's Church on Mother's Day we began our discussion with the question-what is a mother? The brilliant children came up with great atributes-a mother-gives birth, guides, loves you, cares for you, protects you, feeds, teaches, is a woman. I then posed the question-does a mother have to be a woman? Their response was a resounding YES? So, I asked them, can a father guide you-yes, they said! Can they Love, protect, feed teach...Well Yes they can said the children....BUT...a father cannot give Birth.

My question however, is Can a Father be a Mother? Slowly the wheels turned and one child shouts out-well, I have two dads....and in a sense they are my mothers!

I then spoke of God who in many scriptures is called a mother-I am like a mother hen that gathers her chicks under her wings-God is a mother giving birth at every moment in time......and I asked them how they have protected others, had new and exciting ideas that gave birth to newness,,,,a silence dropped over the children....

We spoke of the children passing out gifts to the women who came forth-especially our transgendered women. I reminded them-all of these women see themselves as "Mothers" because they claim this spiritual gift-but in a true sense, as we grow, we begin to realize we all have a Mother-inside of us and we use that gift daily when we stand up to someone who have been bullied, say something nice to lift someone's spirit, share a snack or lunch, or create something that has never been in existence that everyone can enjoy...

I then named this energy the Divine Feminine, teaching the children that we each are formed with sides of the divine, the feminine and masculine. As we claim our gift, being made in the image and likeness of God, Mother's Day is an opportunity to reflect on God's call to bend toward the next generation with care, love, affection and belief that they are coming into an understanding love of their purpose and mission in life with a growing sense of a Divine motherhood within.
